'Lexy' Graphite on Canvas 100x100cm

Artist's comment:

'Lexy or Alexander is the youngest of the prize winning micro herd of highland cattle from Arundel. Lexy’s and family win every South of England cattle show ‘Highland' prize - though, being in Sussex, there is rarely any competition.

Graphite is a gloriously messy medium - drawn on and then pushed around and finessed by wet brushes, a perfect pairing for the barely controlled chaos of Highland grooming. The process of creating ‘Lexy' is revealed by the deliberately ‘unfinshed’ areas on the painting.'

John achieved overnight success in the 90’s for his bold paintings of cows; a subject which has remained his single focus ever since and earned him international recognition as ‘the cow man’. Light is often used to accentuate composition and backgrounds are ever changing. His fresh approach to each work has established a growing collection of powerful work. John has exhibited widely throughout the UK and internationally.

This painting is framed in the artist's signature bespoke black wooden frame. Please allow approx 6.5cm to each side of the 100x100cm canvas size.
