Belak is a traditional medallion in Timor Leste. In the old days, warriors returning from battles receive Belak on a red thread in honor of their bravery and courage. They are worn by men, women and children as part of traditional attire for ceremonies. Belak which are considered sacred by villagers are still now kept in the village's sacred house.
