Artist's comment:

'There is a conversation here -

Evangeline: “I used to love golf

Gwendoline “The clubs are heavy though”

Evangeline Brackett and Gwendoline Poskitt are two characters from a PG Wodehouse golfing story. I’m a huge fan of Mr Wodehouse and his stories and couldn’t resist lifting this reference. This is painted with palette knives rather than brushes. Finesse and detailed control is surrendered in this technique but it creates accidental and random marks beyond the range of brushes. I completely love painting like this.

Evangeline Brackett (on the left) was painted after the lockdown…. and Gwendoline Poskitt (on the right) was painted before. An eight week gap between the two.

The models are part of the Watson’s  Manor Farm herd in Oxford.'

John achieved overnight success in the 90’s for his bold paintings of cows; a subject which has remained his single focus ever since and earned him international recognition as ‘the cow man’. Light is often used to accentuate composition and backgrounds are ever changing. His fresh approach to each work has established a growing collection of powerful work. John has exhibited widely throughout the UK and internationally.

This painting is framed in a bespoke wooden wooden frame. Please allow approx 6.5cm to each side of the 100x100cm canvas size.
