JEWELLERY CARE
WHAT IS GOLD VERMEIL?
Gold vermeil is a layer of gold over sterling silver, and requires a little care and attention. Always remove your gold vermeil jewellery when applying creams, perfumes and lotions. Gold Vermeil is 'affordable Gold' using sterling Silver coated with Gold, both metals are precious and hold value.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY PLATED JEWELLERY?
Gold vermeil in particular can fade to Silver within 3 - 12 months depending on where it is worn and how it is maintained. Never wear your gold vermeil jewellery in the shower or when swimming. Chlorine, especially at high temperatures, can permanently damage or discolour your gold vermeil jewellery. We recommend you store your jewellery in a cloth, acid free tissue paper or jewellery box when you are not wearing it.
CLEANING PLATED JEWELLERY
Gently clean your gold vermeil jewellery with a soft polishing cloth. Alternatively you can clean vermeil by using warm soapy water and a soft cloth. After washing you should rinse the piece and use another soft cloth to dry and polish it.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY SILVER JEWELLERY?
Sterling silver is a precious metal and as a result of its composition your silver jewellery may tarnish gradually over time. Tarnishing is a natural process that is caused when sterling silver is exposed to humidity and chemicals such as hydrogen sulphide in the air. To minimise the speed of this process we advise you don’t wear your silver jewellery in the shower or when swimming as chemicals (especially chlorine) can encourage silver to tarnish. Always remove your jewellery when applying creams, perfumes and lotions. Try to remove jewellery when doing tasks such as cleaning, playing sport or other strenuous activities that may cause scratches.
CLEANING SILVER JEWELLERY
Gently clean your silver jewellery with warm soapy water and a soft cloth then rinse well (please note: oxidised silver should be left as a dark finish). Alternatively you can send your pieces to be professionally cleaned.
CLEANING JEWELLERY WITH GEMSTONES
Clean jewellery using warm soapy water and a soft bristle toothbrush. Use a non-abrasive silver cloth or soft lint free cloth to polish jewellery. Soft porous stones such as pearls and opals must not be dipped in silver dip as it will penetrate the stone and could lead to discolouring.
