The white of the Burgh Island Hotel stands out against a sage green sloping hill and bruised slate blue sky. The starkness of the golden sandbar centres this composition of the picturesque Devonshire beach, whilst the flare of bright red poppies in the foreground animate a temperate backdrop.

Katty McMurray studied at the Chelsea School of Art (1988-91) and has exhibited widely throughout the UK.Her work draws on her extensive travels, with a more recent focus on the British coast and London, where the artist grew up. Clean lines, solid brightly coloured shapes and a meticulously balanced palette are a hallmark of Katty’s work.
